Dear FPCSA Family & Friends,
Last autumn I received a phone call inviting me to be the keynote speaker at a gathering of the Presbytery of Los Ranchos. I laughed and then I said, “Wait. What??” It is a great honor to be invited to speak to a Presbytery gathering. In fact, in my recollection, I can’t remember a time when a pastor of the Presbytery spoke. It’s usuallyreserved for seminary professors, published authors, theologians, or well-known speakers like Father Greg of Homeboy Industries. After my initial surprise at the invitation, I was filled with a sense of honor, humility and blessing.
The day has come. Tomorrow (2/29) at 11:30 a.m. I will address our local presbytery on the subject of “God’s PlayGround: Moving from Multi-Ethnic to Intercultural.”
All are welcome. Presbytery meetings are free and open to the public. If you would like to come, please do so.
This past Wednesday marked the beginning of LENT. Several people came for the Ash Wednesday communion service. It was a positive time to meditate on God’s word, pray, and commit oneself to a deeper discipleship. During this season, we encourage our members and friends to follow a Lenten Devotional and we have a family-friendly one, titled, “Generous Giving,” available in the Gallery.

On a sad note, long-time member, Jeanne Park, died last Monday. After Bob’s death, Jeanne has been living in Reno, Nevada. I have not heard anything about a service, but will communicate that information to you as soon as I know.

In worship this Family First Sunday (3/1) we’ll be commissioning Sandra Escoto as our new Director of Children’s Ministry. She asked what it meant to be commissioned and I told her we would be breaking a bottle of champagne on her forehead. Following the service, Sandra will be available in the Gallery for conversation and then we’ll move to the Creativity Center to meet with any parents who might have questions. I think she will be an amazing addition to the FPCSA staff and family!
